Disneyland Halloween Time Eats

Happy Halloween! This fall, I was able to make it to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure a couple of times during the Halloween Time celebration. Of course, I had to try out some the Halloween eats and treats in the parks. 

The first thing on my list to try was the Bat Wing Raspberry Sundae at Clarabelle's on Buena Vista Street. The white chocolate raspberry swirl ice cream is to die for. I didn't pick up on the white chocolate flavor too much, but the raspberry swirl was like having a little bit of raspberry sorbet mixed in with the ice cream. The chocolate bat cookies were delicious. I wish they sold some chocolate cookies like them in the candy shops. The sundae is served in a chocolate dipped waffle bowl, topped with a mound of whipped cream, and spattered with raspberry sauce. I'm going to miss this sundae.

One of the the treats offered in Cars Land was the Spoke-y Cone Macaron. It perfectly matches the theme for the location.

Inside the macaron is marshmallow buttercream and candy corn. It is very sweet, but oh so good. It is big enough to share. I would actually recommend that if you don't have a big sweet tooth. 

Just across from the Cozy Cone Motel is Flo's V8 Cafe where I went to try the Car-achnid Pot Pie. It's a chicken pot pie with dried cranberries and a spider crust. This was the only savory Halloween Time food item I tried and I was not disappointed. I wasn't sure how I would like the cranberries in the pie, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the flavor combination worked. And most of all, I loved the buttery, flaky crust.

The last Halloween-inspired treat I tried was the Spider Silk Ice Cream Sandwich from Clarabelle's Hand Scooped Ice Cream on Buena Vista Street. I've been wanting to try charcoal ice cream since it has become a trendy thing at a lot of ice cream shops. I figured I might as well try this charcoal-tart cherry ice cream sandwiched between a black macaron. It is also topped with raspberry sauce and popping candy. It was really messy, but worth it. I really enjoyed the cherry and raspberry flavors. And for the popping candy, I forgot about them until one popped surprisingly popped in my mouth. They definitely make the dish fun to eat. 

I enjoyed all the the eats and treats that I was able to try this year. I'm impressed that they added so many food items to menus all around both parks this year, but disappointed that I didn't get to try out more of them. Now, I'm looking forward to what appears on menus for the holidays.

Halloween Time at Disneyland

 Well, Halloween is over but here is some of the seasonal fun and treats enjoyed this season.

The flowers in front of the train station are always a beautiful welcome. 

 The giant Mickey pumpkin is a great photo op. 

 All the orange and yellow really pops in the hub. This is a good spot to get a picture of the castle in the background even if it does already have snow on it the week before Halloween. Christmas and winter holidays will be in full swing before you know it.

 I love all the pumpkins and flowers surrounding Walt and Mickey's statue.

And now on to the treats.

 There are several different caramel apples available year round at Candy Palace on Main Street and Pooh's Corner in Critter Country in Disneyland and Trolley Treats in Disney's California Adventure, but this one of course is only around for Halloween Time.

 I love candy corn so this apple covered in caramel, chocolate, and candy corn was incredible.

 I enjoyed this caramel apple funnel cake at Hungry Bear Restaurant. The funnel cake was topped with powdered sugar, cinnamon apples, whipped topping shaped like Mickey, caramel, and some sort of cinnamon sugar crumble topping. It was delicious and huge. I shared it with a couple of friends and we still didn't finish it. 

 The are lots of pumpkin treats offered around the resort, but I only tried a couple. First was this piece of pumpkin fudge. It doesn't look like much, but it was SO good. It was hard to stop eating it. I don't think I've ever bought any of the other fudge at Disneyland, but I heard about how good this one was and decided to give it a try. I'll be checking to see if this is still around on my next visit. 

 I stopped by Maurice's Treats to check out the pumpkin twist. I heard good things about this as well, so I was excited to try it. 

 These are all the different twists in their display case. I believe they are chocolate, strawberry, garlic, and the seasonal pumpkin.

The flaky pastry is filled with pumpkin and a little bit of spice and sprinkled with sugar. It's really good.  I would have to say that this was my favorite snack of the season. 

 Over in California Adventure, I headed over to Schmoozies! to try their caramel apple smoothie. 

 I didn't have enough of an appetite to try the pumpkin muffin. Oh well. 

I wasn't too sure about what the smoothie would taste like, but I really enjoyed it. A sweet, refreshing, cool drink while walking around the parks on an 85 degree day was perfect. 

These Mickey Halloween bat cookies are always good. It is a shortbread cookie topped with chocolate and decorated to look like a Mickey bat. They are not only delicious, but cute and quite big. 

Those were all the seasonal items I was able to enjoy this Halloween Time. There were even more that I didn't get to. Maybe next year! I'll leave you with some more of the holiday decorations around the park.

I took another picture when I was passing by at dusk. 

 Across the way is the Halloween tree. I love it's orange glow at night. 

 I stopped by the Haunted Mansion Holiday, but it was broken down at the time. I've already ridden it a couple this season, but looking forward to riding it again until January.

This was my last picture of the Mickey pumpkin until next year. Soon the giant Christmas tree will take it's spot.

Lunch at Flo's V8 Cafe in Cars Land

The holiday season is long gone, but I never posted the lunch I had at Flo's V8 Cafe in Disney's California Adventure. I hope you don't mind seeing the holiday decorations now.

Flo's is one of my favorite places in Cars Land. While standing in front of Flo's Cafe, it feels like you could have stepped into the movie. If you haven't seen it, you must watch the movie Cars before you go.

Flo's decor and comfort food are like that of a 1950's diner. I really like the restaurant, but especially one room in particular. It's designed like a classic car with two-tone bench seats and head rests, huge rear view mirror, and taillight chandelier. 
Now, on to the food. I had the pork loin with Coca-Cola barbecue sauce, peas and carrots, baked beans, and a garlic chive dinner roll for $11.49. I really enjoyed this meal. My plate was nearly clean when i was done. 

I thought the holiday cup was cute.

Here is my brother's plate. He had the roast beef, mashed potatoes, baked beans and garlic chive dinner roll, but he subbed the gravy for the barbecue sauce for $11.99. He cleaned his plate as well.

 And this room has a great view of the Radiator Springs Racers attraction. It's fun to watch the cars race by.

I really enjoy this restaurant and look forward to trying some other dishes off the menu. I really want to try the french toast on the breakfast menu. Maybe the next time I stroll down Route 66. 

Candy Canes from Disneyland

Merry Christmas! Candy canes are a Christmas tradition and Disneyland makes some that are wonderful.

This picture shows the candy makers from the Candy Palace on Main St. in Disneyland, but they also make candy canes in Trolley Treats in California Adventure. On select days, you can line up in front of the store at or before park opening to get a wristband that allows you to purchase a candy cane that is made fresh that day. You can watch the candy makers create those huge peppermint candy canes in different batches during the day.

Here were the dates and locations for this year's candy canes. I've heard stories of people lining up early to get a wristband. The candy canes are coveted because it is rare to be able to buy one you can watch being made right in front of you and eat it on the same day. I think that's pretty awesome. 

Once you've received a wristband, the cast member lets you know what time your candy cane will be available for purchase. When you go to pick it up, they have it ready and wrapped in bubble wrap to make sure it makes it home in one piece. They cost $12.99. I know that's a little steep for a candy cane, but it is huge. It's about 13 inches long and more than enough to share. 

You can't get one like it anywhere else. The peppermint flavor is great. I would recommend trying it if you get the chance. Next year, I plan on going to watch the candy making process. I wasn't able to watch much of it this time, so I've got something to look forward to. 

Thanksgiving Treats for Limited Time Magic

This past week, Disneyland chose food as the focus for Limited Time Magic. Of course, that meant that I had to go and check it out. 

This was also my first time seeing the parks decorated for Christmas this year. I love this time of year.

Even the Dapper Dans get into the spirit.

My first food stop was at the Jolly Holiday Bakery. 

I love the Mary Poppins theme. I watched that movie a lot as a kid.

I got a caramel apple muffin for $3.19. I love caramel apples (especially Disney's) so I knew I would like it. Underneath the crumb topping, there were a couple of pieces of thinly sliced apple. The caramel made the muffin a little gooey, but still delicious. I hope  they still have this the next time I'm there. The cast member that helped me said that she waits all year for this to come back in season. Now, I will too.

Then, I headed into California Adventure to Cars Land. It is one of the few areas that transforms for Christmas.

Flo's V8 Cafe had another Limited Time Magic item. 

I love all of the details that they have in here. 

It really feels like you could be thrown back to the 1950's. 

This Christmas tree matches the decor perfectly. 

While I was in Flo's, I ordered the pumpkin pie hot chocolate. This appealed to me because I love hot chocolate and I have been enjoying all the pumpkin treats this season. The subtle pumpkin flavor was nice, but after a while it just tasted like the regular Disneyland hot chocolate to me. This tasty drink costs $3.19.

Later on, I made my way back over to Disneyland. I had to go to Tomorrowland to try the sweet potato turnovers ($5.19) from the Tomorrowland Terrace. 

Sweet potatoes are one of my favorite Thanksgiving side dishes and sweet potato pie is my favorite kind of pie. These turnovers were like eating sweet potatoes in a crispy, fried pie crust that was sprinkled with powdered sugar. They were great!

On that quick trip, that's all my stomach had room for. I can't wait to go back and try some other new things and have some old favorites.
